EMERGING
A reader emails me regarding SPFNYC (the link was added by me):
Hey Mac--as a frequent visitor to your blog, I checked out the selections for that "emerging" playwrights festival thingy you applied for.So here's my complaint:
Heather MacDonald has had a play produced on Broadway. She's not emerging. She emerged long ago.
Jordan Harrison, Neena Beber, Octoavio Solis--all have had many LORT productions. They too, have already emerged.
Organizations that support writers should at least use words properly. They should have listed their festival, as "a summer festival that's going to put on the best plays submitted, regardless of the status of the writer," or "a summer festival dedicated to producing writers who haven't won the Pulitzer." Or "A living writers play festival." Or "An old farts play festival." I swear to God if I see another "emerging playwrights"
festival that features Lee Blessing I'm going to scream.
Or perhaps there's many degrees of "emerging." Perhaps there's "partly but not fully emerged," with "fully emerged" defined as "Edward Albee."
